The Wall Matters More Than the Paper

Wallpaper shows every fault underneath it. A bump, an old filler patch or a wall that was last painted in a heavy silk will all telegraph through a finished drop, and seams that open up a few months later almost always trace back to preparation rather than the paper itself.

So the wall comes first. Old paper is steamed off, damage is filled and sanded flat, glossy or chalky surfaces are keyed and sealed, and the wall is sized so the paper can be positioned rather than fought with. Where a surface is uneven — common in older island properties with patched or dry-lined walls — we line it before hanging the finished paper.

Hanging itself is slow, careful work: the first drop set plumb rather than to a wonky corner, repeats matched across each length, edges cut tight to skirting, ceiling and switches, and every seam rolled and wiped down as we go.

    What Our Wallpapering Service Covers

Residential wallpapering across Guernsey, from one feature wall to a whole room, including the preparation and any painting around it.

    Feature walls

A single bold wall behind a bed, chimney breast or in a dining room — the most popular way people use paper now.

    Full rooms

Bedrooms, hallways, snugs and dining rooms papered throughout, with drops planned so pattern breaks fall out of sight.

    Removing old paper

Steaming and stripping tired paper, then making good the wall underneath before anything new goes up.

    Wall preparation

Filling, sanding, sizing and lining where needed, so the paper sits flat and the seams stay closed.

    Pattern matching

Repeats lined up drop to drop and cut cleanly around sockets, switches, skirting and the ceiling line.

    Paper and paint together

Papered walls combined with painted ceilings and woodwork so the whole room is finished in one visit.

Most papering jobs sit inside a wider redecoration, so it's usually worth reading our interior painting and decorating page too, or the full list of decorating services we offer in Guernsey.

    How It Works

    Tell us the room

Send over the room, the wall or walls you want papered and the paper you have in mind — or ask us what will work.

    02

    Visit and quote

Woody measures up, checks the state of the walls, works out how many rolls you need and sends a written price.

    03

    Prepare the walls

Old paper stripped if needed, holes filled, surfaces sanded flat and sized or lined so the new paper sits properly.

    04

    Hang and finish

Drops hung plumb and pattern-matched, edges cut in tight, everything wiped down and the room left clean.

    Wallpaper Hanging Across the Island

We work across every parish — St Peter Port, St Sampson's, Vale, Castel, St Andrew's, St Martin's, St Saviour's, Forest and Torteval. Town apartments, granite cottages and modern family homes all get the same preparation before a single drop goes up.
